David Wood, Head of New Technology, European Broadcasting Union (EBU) told about Octoshape’s successful streaming of the European Song Contest (ESC), at IPv6 Convergence: New Opportunities for accelerating the IPv6 Momentum.
The conference was gathered leading experts from e.g. Alcatel, Cisco, European Commission, Microsoft. Normally it is very expensive to stream ESC and it would probably (in the past) have been cheaper to give each viewer a free CD. However, this year ESC was streamed with Octoshape, and David Wood point out some of the benefits with Octoshape
- Very large reduction in cost,
- Good quality, no interruptions for re-buffering
- Result was prolonged viewing times
ESC-TV was seen by 75.000 people using the Octoshape technology, the delivery of this year’s ESC event succeeded without any problems (for example, there were no load problems). Bjørn Erichsen, director of EBU TV department, says "We are very pleased with the service and quality offered by Octoshape." For more information see Octoshape press release.
